Hey guys! I've recently had to enjoy the tedium of signing up for accessaride (or Austin's version of it) and just got my acceptance letter. The letter came in a pdf and when I click on it it says it's processing the pages. however, when I get into the document...it says the document is empty. Is there any way I can see the text of the document without having to call the people and have them put it in a different format or something? I've always had issues with adobi but never have I actually really really really needed to see what was there... any help would be amazing!!!!
thanks,
Daniel!

I seem to recall having a similar problem. Which version of adobe are you using, and which screen reader. I believe you may need to enable accessibility in Adobe to allow your rcreen reader to function properly. I thought it was an issue with adobe or my reader, but it turned out to be that simple. I don't have adobe with me right now, but I believe you can find accessibility settings in preferences, or maybe under View.

Restart your computer.
Once the document is open press the right mouse click button.
This sometimes will bring up the dialogue on how you want to see it.
Leave the settings as they are.
I read Adobe documents all the time, due to using banking and such things, and if I do have a problem, this method works.
Make sure you have to latest, and make sure it was installed correctly as to using with a screen reader.
If you aren't sure, remove it, and reinstall it.
You see the options.

One program that I've used is pdf reader3 by the folks that put out webbie.

It can be found at
http://www.webbie.org.uk/download.htm

Let us know if it helps.

You might actually get something out of it if you could run it through Kurzweil.

Yes. Kurzweil 1000 will sort it out if you use FineReader to scan it. I use Kurzweil 1000 to scan editions of the Telegraph from 100 years ago and though it doesn't scan everything perfectly, there is plenty I can read.
